02 Psycho & Interstellar Movie Posters
Date Completed: 01 / 02 / 2021

Module: 42_2
Duration: 60 Days

Type:
Poster Design

Softwares Used:

Brief:
We were tasked to research two different movies and create two different alternative movie posters. These two movies were supposed to be premiering the day we presented them, and along with the poster we had to create a flyer to promote the premier. One is the movie Psycho which turned 60 years old in 2020, and the other one is the movie Interstellar.

The second poster had a 3 colours maximum limitation.

Both descriptions could potentially contain spoilers to the movies, please read at your own risk!

Psycho Poster:

Psycho is a Horror / Thriller released in the year 1960, directed by famous movie director Alfred Hitchcock. The movie features a young woman who embezzled $40,000, and when being on the run, stumbles across Bates Motel, in which she finds the odd Norman Bates. Their encounters aftermath leads for a Private investigator to go on the search for them.

Given Norman bates inintial innocent appearance, but psychotic background, I wanted the poster to reflect the personality trait. The poster initially only features the house, which uppon first look seems like it doesn’t have much special in it. Once the viewer spends more time looking, and pays more attention to the details, they will see that the shadows of the house illustrate the derainged look of the truly psychotic Norman Bates.

Interstellar Poster:

Interstellar is a movie about a dystopian future in which a global blight and a second dust bowl are rendering the planet uninhabitable. Seeing as theres no hope for fixing the planet, scientists at NASA start looking up into the stars, and discover a wormhole situated close to Saturn. This causes for NASA to send some brave astronauts into the wormhole to discover what lays behind it. The protagonist, Cooper, is sent along with other researchers to explore the 3 planets discovered by the previous team, and is expected to find which planet can be the new home for mankind.

This movie poster was limited, as we were only allowed to use three different colors.

One thing I thought that lacked from the original movie poster was a quote, or something inspirational which would give the sense of hope that the movie portrays. To make up for this I added the quote “Mankind was born on earth, but it was never meant to die here”. The astronauts tilted head in the center of what looks to be a dry landscape, is supposed to show the desperation and hope, and the action of those emotions are shown behind with the departure of the rocket shown in Interstellar, which is based off a Saturn V prototype.
